Mentor Duty
Each night there is a different mentor on duty and often another mentor doing lock up. Below is what a typical duty night looks like.
A Typical Duty
18.45 Mentor arrives on Duty
18.50 Tick off completed or roll call - normall led by RALS
19.00 Start of prep
19.00 -19.45:
Make the initial round, which settles the pupils down to prep. Please do not take for granted that the 6as and 6bs will self-regulate; they too need to be encouraged to settle down and focus. Pupils should be working at their desk and not on their beds. Please question assertions that no prep has been set and if appropriate email the member of staff concerned or ask me to do so. Do not hesitate to separate noisy or disruptive pupils from the rest and place them in the corridor, landing or the ground floor kitchen. As a general guideline, pupils should feel relaxed and at ease as they work in prep time but focused and appropriately energised. Occasional visits to the lavatory or to fetch drinks are permitted but beware of any boys who move restlessly around the rooms and corridors. While not on your rounds, please try to be aware of what is happening in the house. No one should cook food in prep time.
19.45 -20.30: Make a second round before the end of prep at…
20.30
End of prep.
Pupils may play in the garden, but they are not allowed to visit other Houses. 6th form may attend the Social Centre for organised events or there may be rehearsals on. All pupils should return to house by 10.00. They will need a gate pass if they leave the precincts.
Hand out any gate passes for the next morning

22.15 pm Fifths (Fifths should bring all their electronics to the cupboard for 22.00)
22.30 pm 6b and 6a to be in their rooms ready for bed.
No showering past 22.30
23.00 pm RALS, CTF, OPD, or JR to complete final ‘lock up’ ensuring that all pupils are in bed and quiet.
You should not leave the house any earlier than 23.00 or until the house is silent.
Lock up should entail checking all the external doors and windows in the corridors and staircases are shut. Turn off all the lights around the house, including the common room and kitchens. Turn off the TV in the hallway. At Christmas, turn off the Christmas Tree lights.
As you leave the house, make sure the front door is closed behind you.
